The Big Gear Show (TBGS), a new American outdoor industry show focusing on hardgoods, paddling, cycling, climbing and camping, has announced that its first event will take place on July 21-25, 2020, at the Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Cycling will be a core element. In fact, the National Bicycle Dealers Association (NBDA) has made TGBS the official trade show for the bicycle industry for 2020. The show was conceived by Sutton Bacon and Darren Bush, two long-time retailers in the U.S. who also developed the Paddlesports Retailer Show, which has been held since 2017. The business model offers low rates to hardgoods manufacturers, innovators and start-ups that would otherwise lack the margins to exhibit at a mainstream show. TGBS will be offsetting buyers' travel expenses by rewarding retailers that register early with a housing allowance. The show will reserve its first three days for trade visitors and open to the public on the last day.
