The Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Foundation has announced the launch of its Implementation Hub, a platform which is supposed to accelerate the impact of best practices in environmental and chemical management across the value chains of the textile, apparel, footwear and leather industries. The new Implementation Hub makes available for brands, suppliers and retailers, a range of support services in the areas of baselining, strategy setting and implementation. These services are conducted by industry experts that are accredited by ZDHC. The hub will operate as a platform to find and match up with accredited experts for chemical and environmental management projects. The first projects under the Hub will start in January, with an initial focus on Italy, India and China.
ZDHC has also announced the recognition of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) as one of its certification standards. GOTS-approved chemical products will now comply with ZDHC Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) Level 1, and will be verified directly and officially ranked within the ZDHC Gateway Chemical Module. More than 500 chemical suppliers have already been assessed by GOTS, and more than 15,000 trade names of colorants and auxiliaries have been listed as approved, ZDHC said. The GOTS adds to the BLC Chem-MAP, Eco Passport by Oeko-Tex, and ToxServices Full Materials Disclosure (ToxFMD) as ZDHC Accepted MRSL Conformance Certification Standards.
