A grant from the It's Great Out There Coalition is helping more than 400 students from a school in eastern England explore the outdoors on water. The students, including 128 who had never been on water before, have been canoeing in boats that were bought using the grant. The project is led by Dom Brister from Stamford Welland Academy in Lincolnshire, part of the Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust. The grant has also enabled the purchase of new personal flotation devices and paddles for the academy. The equipment, owned by the academy, is being used every week by several schools, under Brister's coordination. The It's Great Out There Coalition is an international non-profit association, registered in Brussels, set up and launched by the European Outdoor Group (EOG) to inspire more people to get active in the outdoors. The organization is funded by membership fees from some of the biggest outdoor businesses in Europe. Full members include Berghaus, Columbia, Intersport, Ispo, Jack Wolfskin, Keen, Mammut, Marmot, McTrek, Merrell, Nordisk, Ortovox, Primaloft, Rab, Regatta, Reima, Salomon, Schuster, Sport2000, Ternua, The North Face, Vango and Vaude.
