A new study released by just-style.com estimates that the global outdoor performance apparel industry will grow by 20 percent to 2020. The strongest growth should take place in the expanding markets of China, India and parts of Southeast Asia. It may also grow fast in Mexico and parts of South America, depending on government policies. In the U.S., where the market will grow more than in Europe, it will be driven by three types of young consumers: the athlete, the achiever and the aspiration core consumer. In the past three years, the study shows, the market for outdoor performance apparel has been growing at annual rates of 6 percent in the U.S., 2.5 percent in Europe and at double-digit rates in emerging countries. The market is changing, says the study, becoming younger, more diverse, more social and trending toward more versatile products.
