Patagonia has announced an investment in Beyond Surface Technologies (BST), a chemical company that uses sustainable technologies, based on natural substances, to produce high-performance textile treatments. The investment, the details of which have not been disclosed, has been made by Patagonia through its $20 Million & Change venture fund, created in May 2013 to provide financial support to responsible companies. Based in Switzerland, BST was founded in 2008 by scientists and marketing experts with long-standing experience in the textile industry. They are said to have achieved sustainability by replacing fossil-based raw materials or significantly reducing their share.
