The Challenge Project 2017 is the first project to be awarded a grant from It's Great Out There, the coalition of outdoor-related companies that aims to inspire and enable people to participate in outdoor activities. The Challenge Project 2017 is organized by Friedrich Junge School in partnership with Primaloft, a founding member of the coalition. The project will take 17 school children and teachers from northern Germany on a trek through the Alps, partly funded by a grant of €2,200 from It's Great Out There. The group will spend 10 days in the Alps in September, hiking the E5 route from Oberstorf in Germany to Merano in Italy. They will hike for up to 10 hours per day, carrying their kit and sleeping in mountain huts. Besides offering a money grant, the coalition has encouraged its members to provide outdoor gear for the children and teachers to use during their trip. It's Great Out There is an international non-profit association registered in Brussels. The coalition, which has been launched and set up by the European Outdoor Group (EOG), is working with the European Commission to enhance European support for projects designed to encourage citizens to get outdoors and be active. Grants to community-led initiatives are just one of the ways in which the organization pursues its mission. The coalition now has 29 full members among which are The North Face, Berghaus, Columbia, Merrell, Salomon, Intersport, Sport 2000, Ispo, OutDoor Friedrichshafen and others.
