The Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (Fesi) is backing the European #BeActive campaign, which promotes sport and exercise for healthier living. As part of the campaign, the European Week of Sport (EWoS), which ran from Sept. 23 to 30, saw the organization of thousands of events across Europe, with a focus on schools, workplaces, outdoors and sport in clubs and fitness centers. According to the European Commission, the proportion of Europeans who never exercise or play sport stands at a worrying 35 percent, and girls are more likely to do less exercise or sport than boys. Fesi was one of the first partners of the European Week of Sport, joining around the time of its launch in 2015. The organization represents around 1,800 sporting goods manufacturers and retailers – 85 percent of the European market – through its 12 federations, including the European Outdoor Group and its directly affiliated member companies. The total European sporting goods industry employs around 700,000 EU citizens and has an annual turnover of some €81 billion.
