Leon Gorman, head of L.L.Bean, died on Sept. 3 at his home in Yarmouth, Maine. He was 80 years old and reportedly suffered from cancer. Gorman, who was the grandson of the company's founder, was president and chief executive of L.L. Bean from 1967 to 2001, chairman from 2001 to 2013, and chairman emeritus from 2013 until his death. Gorman is credited with transforming his family's business from a catalog company with a single store and 100 employees into a retailer with two dozen locations, more than 5,000 workers and sales exceeding $1.5 billion.
