Manuel Abad Sáenz, who founded Calzados Fal 50 years ago, passed away on Oct. 24 at the age of 78. He began by making vulcanized outdoor shoes for the local farmers in the region of La Rioja. The company subsequently launched a brand, Chiruca, which is regarded as the biggest brand of Spanish-made outdoor and hunting footwear. Calzados Fal continued to be run by its founder until 2013, when his sons Manuel and Carlos Abad took over the management.
