Petzl America is recalling 375,000 lanyards worldwide because of a missing safety stitch on the attachment loop, which could cause the lanyard to unhook from the climbing harness and cause the user to fall. One climber in France has already fallen. The brand names are the Scorpio and Absorbica shock absorbing lanyards manufactured in France before May of this year. They were sold worldwide from January 2002 to May 2011 for $75 to $220. Specific descriptions and photos of the affected models are available at the website of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety commission at www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml11/11276.html.
