For the next four years, Smartwool, the maker of woolen sports apparel, will supply the official Merino wool base layer, underwear and socks for all 14 of the Alterra Mountain Company's ski lodges in North America: namely, Steamboat, Winter Park, Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, Mammoth Mountain, June Mountain, Big Bear Mountain, Stratton, Snowshoe, Tremblant, Blue Mountain, Crystal Mountain, Deer Valley, Solitude Mountain, CMH Heli-Skiing and Summer Adventures. In this way, Smartwool will benefit from on-site branding – during events at the ski lodges, for instance – and endorsements from athletes sponsored by Alterra. Founded in 1994 in Colorado, Smartwool became a subsidiary of VF Corp. in 2011 with the latter's acquisition of Timberland. Alterra, which is also based in Colorado, is a conglomerate of ski lodges put together last year by its private owners, KSL Capital Partners and Aspen/Snowmass.
