Leatherman Tools has released the T2 and T4 models of its Free collection of portable multi-tools. The T2 has eight tools, among them a straight blade, a package opener and several screwdrivers. The T4 adds another four, such as tweezers, scissors and a file. The collection's design is unique in two respects: one hand suffices to pry out any of the multi-tool's implements, and there are no springs. Instead, there is a tensionless system that pairs magnets with an elastomer. The system both prevents wear on the implements and produces a distinct, haptic click. Five years in the making, the Free collection was first launched in the spring and constitutes the largest new product line since its original line, the 35-year-old PST.
