Petzl, the French mountaineering equipment supplier, has announced Alexander Megos as a new member of its team of sponsored athletes. Megos is qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, set to take place this summer due to the pandemic. Among his numerous performances and records, listed on his official website, Megos’ ascent of Estado Critico in Siurana, Spain, in 2013 was the world’s first published 9a onsight (ascent without prior practice or advice). The German rock climber was only 19 at the time. In August 2020, he became the second climber to send 9c (5.15d / FA) when he did the first ascent of the “Bibliographie” route in Céüse, France, one of the world’s hardest rock climbs.
