Sympatex Technologies, the specialist in functional textiles, is a sponsoring partner of “Couture in Orbit,” the first European space fashion project staged by the European Space Agency (ESA). ESA is joining with five European fashion schools for this new international project, asking young designers to find inspiration in space technologies and missions and let it appear in their designs. All designs must also be practical for daily use. The schools participating in the project are Esmod Berlin, Esmod Paris, the Fashion Design Akademiet Copenhagen, Politecnico Milan and the Department of Fashion at Ravensbourne in London. The “Couture in Orbit” project is sponsored by ESA's technology transfer program (TTP), by Sympatex and other sponsors from the industry segment. Each school has its own sponsors to provide state-of-the-art technology and textiles for the new garments. The project will culminate in a fashion show at London's Science Museum, where the final designs from the five participating design schools, selected by a jury of experts, will be modeled on catwalks on the evenings of May 25.
