Alpkit, an outdoor brand from Nottinghamshire, England, has announced plans to open its first Scottish store in Edinburgh early next year. The store, which will be located on Edinburgh’s Causewayside, is reportedly recruiting 12 staff members. In addition to selling gear to hike, climb, camp, run, swim and cycle, the store will feature an outdoor kit repair facility as well as a showroom for Sonder Bikes, Alpkit’s bicycle brand. Alpkit raised nearly £1.5 million – double its initial target – via Crowdcube last June, part of which will likely be spent on its expansion northward. The brand currently runs four stores in England as well as an e-commerce store, which was voted as The Great Outdoors Magazine’s Best Online Retailer of the Year for 2020. Alpkit is a founder member of The Microfibre Consortium and the outdoor industry Single Use Plastics Project, and has become a certified B Corporation this year.
