Montane, the British brand of high-end mountaineering apparel, has sealed an exclusive distribution deal with Sportpulsion for the French market, taking the place of BC Equipment. Sportpulsion already distributes high-ranking outdoor and sports brands in France such as Osprey, Lowa, Giro, Nidecker and Northwave. Meanwhile, Vertical Trade has signed on to become Montane's distributor for the Czech Republic. The firm was founded in the late 1980s by Stanislav Šilhán under the name Vertical, and started to import Western climbing gear into the former Czechoslovakia. After his death five years ago, the company was continued under the name Vertical Trade by his wife to distribute Western gear from Petzl, Cascade Designs and others in the Czech Republic. The news from France and the Czech Republic came shortly after Montane concluded a sales agreement with Arco-based Serico for Italy. Serico is already the Italian distributor of the climbing apparel of Fels and the climbing shoes of Andrea-Boldrini. Before, Montane had served the Italian market directly from its U.K. base.
