While we already reported about the opening of a Bergans subsidiary in the U.S. earlier this year, it turns out that the Norwegian outdoor company launched its own business in Russia earlier this year as well. The brand was previously sold there by Janus AS, the Russian subsidiary of Janus, a Norwegian specialist in wool underwear based in Bergen. The Bergans office in Saint Petersburg is headed by Helena Christiansen, who was previously with Acerinox, a steel company. Bergans' foreign expansion propelled its growth last year, as its turnover jumped by 8.6 percent, just a few kroner short of 700 million Norwegian kroner (€92.9m-$116.4m). While Norwegian sales increased by 2.8 percent to NOK 534.5 million (€71.0m-$88.9m), the group's turnover jumped by more than 30 percent in Sweden and Germany.
