Roca Cordes de Muntanya, a Spanish manufacturer of climbing ropes and harnesses, has reportedly filed for bankruptcy. An official of the company declined to confirm the present financial status, indicating that it was only the beginning of a process that may lead to its shutdown. The company's staff a declined slightly to 20 persons. Roca has been the distributor of Grivel and La Sportiva on the Spanish market, and the latter has already indicated that it will soon announce a new distributor. Further details could not be learned at the time of going to press. Named after its founder, Joan Roca Ballesta, the company has been in business since 1891, making ropes and other products, mainly for the navy. It began to make climbing ropes in 1963.
