Sporting Goods Intelligence Europe, the older sister of The Outdoor Industry Compass, reports that the consumption of sporting goods in general, including outdoor products, fell by 1.7 percent to €54.0 billion in the 15 major countries of Western Europe last year. In terms of local currencies, the drop amounted to 0.9 percent. Declines were recorded in Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Ireland, the U.K., Switzerland and Denmark. Décathlon gained market shares in all the major countries where it has the leadership, except in Spain.
