The funeral was held in Asolo's cathedral on Dec. 23 for Luigi Parisotto, an Italian shoemaker who was closely connected with the history of the Italian ski and mountain boot manufacturing industry. He passed away on Dec. 20 at the age of 86. Luigi Parisotto started to work at the age of 11 in 1942 at Scarpa, an Italian shoe manufacturing company, founded by a wealthy Anglo-Irish businessman, whose name stands for Società Calzaturieri Asolani Riuniti Pedemontana. After setting up their own shoe company, Calzaturificio Sangiorgio, he and his two brothers bought Scarpa in 1956. Contributing to the invention of many new technologies, they developed the company into one of the world's major suppliers in the sector. Scarpa is currently run by a nephew of Luigi, Sandro Parisotto, and by his two sons Davide and Piero Parisotto.
