(Updated – originally posted Feb. 29, 2020) Following the development of the coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic, IWA Outdoor Classics, the hunting and outdoor show in Nuremberg, will not take place as planned on March 6-9. No new dates have been given yet, but organizer NürnbergMesse GmbH will determine and announce them as soon as possible. The news came shortly before Fibo, the international fitness show – scheduled to take place on April 2-5 in Cologne – was postponed to a still unspecified date in the second half of the year. Reed Exhibitions, the organizers of the event, said in a statement that the decision was not taken lightly, but health and safety had to be the priority. Fibo is the leading European trade fair for the fitness sector.

Other shows and events in Europe and elsewhere around the world were also postponed or, in the worst case, completely cancelled, including leading non-sports-related platforms like the ITB travel show in Berlin (March 4-8) or the Geneva Motor Show (March 5-15).

The death rate related to COVID-19 is currently declining in China, but the virus is spreading to more and more countries.

Rebecca Schönfelder, head of IWA OutdoorClassics, said in an interview about the change of date: “We see the special circumstances this year as an opportunity to expand the IWA OutdoorClassics conceptually. That’s why we are organizing a ‘Special Edition’ in 2020. A first idea, which we will now discuss with our customers, is to open the fair to end customers on two days”.
