A French TV production company, Groupe AB, is launching a new cable and satellite TV channel in France. Called Trek, it will go live on Feb. 2 and will feature a diversified program 24 hours a day, covering one theme each day of the week: extreme sports, hiking, snow sports, horse-riding, mountain biking, surf/diving, etc. Groupe AB, an independent TV programmer that already runs 14 other channels, will be financed through subscriptions and advertising. A group of outdoor celebrities participated in the presentation of the new initiative in Paris last week, in connection with the European Outdoor Film Tour, sponsored by Mammut and Gore-Tex. Reportedly, a similar outdoor TV channel is expected to be launched in Switzerland shortly.
