Adidas and Nike are in the top five of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI)'s leaderboard for 2018, at the fourth and fifth place, respectively. The BCI is the Geneva-based body that campaigns for increased production and consumption of “more sustainable cotton.” Fifteen companies featured on its 2018 leaderboard, a table that the organization has compiled to show the leading users of its cotton last year. VF Corp. took the ninth place and Decathlon the 11th. Only four companies — Adidas, Hema, Marimekko and Stadium — could boast of sourcing more than 90 percent of their total cotton as Better Cotton. The BCI approach to sustainable cotton production looks at all three pillars of sustainability: environmental, social and economic.
