Andy Rubin, chairman of Pentland Brands, has joined the board of JD Sports Fashion as a non-executive director to support the British retailer's international expansion, thanks especially to his experience in brand development outside Europe. The Pentland Group, which is controlled by the Rubin family, owns 57.47 percent of the shares in JD Sports Fashion, which has successfully moved into Continental Europe with JD and other sporting goods chains. JD Sports Fashion also owns Blacks, Millets and other British outdoor retailers, but JD's management has indicated that it wants them to consolidate in the U.K. before moving overseas. Andy Rubin participated in the European Outdoor Summit in Sheffield, England last October.
