Patagonia has hired Marty Pomphrey to serve as general manager of Patagonia Japan. He will be reporting to John Collins, vice president of global sales. Pomphrey is replacing Takasuki Tsujii, who has stepped down after 10 years. Tsujii has been with Patagonia for 20 years in all, working his way up from part-time store clerk in Patagonia's store in the Shibuya ward of Tokyo. Patagonia began doing business in Japan in 1988 and now employs 500 people and operates 22 stores there. Pomphrey began his career in Tokyo as a forecasting analyst and category sales manager at Nike Japan. He then spent seven years at the Fossil Group, owner of a number of brands of watches and accessories. For the past 12 years, he has been running his own brand management consultancy, Nomi Branding.
