For the first time in its 150-year history, the Norwegian Tourist Association (DNT), Norway's largest outdoor recreation association, has more women as members than men. In total, the organization has over 300,000 members and the new statistics are a clear sign that women have become more active in the outdoors. Meanwhile, the Norwegian Hunting and Fishing Association has reported that the proportion of women in the country's hunting register has grown three times as much as that of men in the last five years. While in 1970 there were 400 registered female hunters in Norway, there are now almost 70,000.
