Jackson Standefer, a 14-year-old boy, died on April 15 in the Grand Canyon National Park while accompanying his mother, Julie Standefer, and his step-grandmother, Lou-Ann Merrell, in the search for latter's husband, Randy Merrell, a maker of customized boots who helped in the establishment of the Merrell Boot Company in 1981. Jackson Standefer and Lou-Anne Merrell, who has not been found as well, were last seen losing their footing and slipping into the water as they were trying to cross the Tapeats Creek in the park.
