President Barack Obama has signed the Outdoor REC Act into law, following its unanimous passage in both chambers of the U.S. Congress. It provides for the outdoor recreation economy to be appraised and counted as part of the national GDP. The Outdoor Industry Association (OIA), which lobbied strongly for the new legislation, is particularly pleased that President-Elect Donald Trump has chosen Cathy McMorris Rodgers, one of the original sponsors of the Outdoor REC Act, to be the new U.S. Secretary of the Interior.
