The Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) has condemned President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement, joining numerous companies and heads of state around the world. Noting that the outdoor industry is directly affected by climate change, Amy Roberts, executive director of the OIA, said President Trump is threatening “not only the $887 billion outdoor industry and the 7.6 million American jobs it supports, but the very future of our planet.” President Trump said on June 1 that its administration wants to negotiate a new and “fair” agreement that doesn't disadvantage U.S. businesses. Signed two years ago by the U.S. and 187 governments, the Paris agreement calls for keeping the increase in global temperatures “well below” 2 degrees centigrade above pre-industrial levels, trying to limit them to 1.5 °C.
