McTrek, the German online and offline discount retailer for outdoor products, raised its sales by 27 percent last year to €37.4 million, with a 43 percent increase in e-commerce. In spite of a difficult market situation due to weather conditions, the gross margin improved by one percentage point to about 47.5 percent, and the company feels that it has clearly overtaken its earlier projections for a net profit of €1.4 million. The company, which is run by Ulrich Dausien, is budgeting a turnover of €45 million for 2014. Three new stores were opened in 2013 and eight more are in the pipeline for 2014, taking the total door count up to 35 units. Two of those will be small “smart shops” located in shopping centers and connected to McTrek's online sales platform.
