Columbia Sportswear is recalling rechargeable batteries that came with 220 of its Omni-Heat jackets because of the risk of them overheating. The defective batteries were sold with three styles of jackets between July and September: the Electric Wader Widgeon, Electric Big Game and Gale Warning Interchange styles. When the problem was discovered, Columbia switched to another source for the battery packs, so jackets currently on the market are safe, and the batteries at issue were not used in Omni-Heat gloves or boots. No injuries have been reported from the overheating batteries.
