Hi-Tec Sports won a prize as “outdoor footwear brand of the year” at the latest edition of the UK Industry Footwear Awards. Organized by Datateam Business Media for the industry, with the support of the British Footwear Association, the Society of Shoe Fitters and the magazine Footwear Today, the awards ceremony was held on the first night of the Moda Footwear Show in Birmingham on Feb. 17, at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull, West Midlands. The awards seek to recognize those in the industry who display innovation and forward thinking. Frank Van Wezel, originally from the Netherlands, settled in Essex and started to build the Hi-Tec shoe brand there in 1974, but then he moved it back to his native country. Today the company sells about 500 Hi-Tec styles throughout 80 countries worldwide under the Hi-Tec Outdoor, Hi-Tec Court, Hi-Tec Golf, Hi-Tec Sport, Urban collections and Magnum brands.
