Vollebak, the London-based brand of futuristic outdoor apparel, has incorporated 60,000 ceramic particles into the fabric of a hoodie. The ceramics are “second only to diamonds” in their resistance to abrasion and have been used in missiles and jet engines. The particles are also thin enough not to impair the fabric’s qualities in wicking, light weight or breathability. According to Steve Tidball, who founded Vollebak four years ago with his twin brother, Nick, “we often end up re-engineering materials that started life being used for radically different things.” Vollebak has also produced the Graphene Jacket, the Plant and Algae T-shirt, the Black Squid Jacket and the Indestructible Puffer.
