The Swiss Katadyn Group has announced that it will acquire Hydro-Photon, the manufacturer of Steripen, described as the world's leading ultraviolet, handheld water purifier. The takeover is expected to be completed by the end of 2017 and will see the marketing and distribution operations of Steripen move to Katadyn's North American headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A small technology unit will be maintained at the existing Hydro-Photon office in Ellsworth, Maine. Katadyn has acquired several leading brands over the last decade, including Alpineaire Foods, Optimus stoves and Spectra watermakers.
