(Already published in the Asia Outdoor issue) Timbuk2 has consolidated the ownership structure as a group controlled by the company's management and by Timbuk2 Investors, a group of investors led by Ken Pucker, former chief operating officer at Timberland. The equity base has been expanded and Timbuk2 has repurchased shares held by affiliates of VMG Partners and others. Founded in San Francisco in 1989, Timbuk2 was the first producer to design customizable messenger bags for postmen and other bicycle riders. Manufacturing in San Francisco and connecting with local non-profit organizations in the cities in which it opens stores is part of the company's philosophy. The product line has evolved over time from cycling-inspired messenger bags to additional categories including backpacks, travel bags, camera bags and totes. According to the company, the year 2012 marked a record in sales.
