Austria is the first country to cover all its regions with the Recco SAR helicopter detector for the search and rescue of missing people in the outdoors. The detectors are now available at four bases of the Austrian Air Traffic Police. Every year, between 500 and 600 people are reported missing in the open country and in mountain regions of Austria. Thermal imaging cameras and mobile phone locators have proved insufficient to find the victims quickly.
