GSI Outdoors, a family-owned company producing outdoor cooking and dining gear, is celebrating its 35th business anniversary this May. For co-owners and siblings Don, Ian, and Kathy Scott, the anniversary marks years of commitment to thoughtful design, responsible manufacturing, and stewardship of the environment.

Founded in 1985 in San Diego, California by Don and Ian, who were originally from British Columbia, Canada, the two brothers later teamed up with sister Kathy as the business grew. Then and now, the Scotts envisioned GSI Outdoors as a way to combine their passions for food and the outdoors, and to make cooking simple, fun, and accessible for their customers.

Today, GSI Outdoors is proudly headquartered in Spokane, Washington, and probably best known for some of their best-selling products such as the Infinity Backpacker mug, space-saving nesting cook sets, or the extremely compact Pinnacle Pro camp stove.

Over the years, the brand has also forged strong relationships with nonprofits and environmental causes, giving back to organizations including The Conservation Alliance, Leave No Trace, The Sam Project, and Outdoors Empowered.

The anniversary comes as the brand, like everyone in the industry, is struggling with the Covid-19 situation. Last month, the company announced a lifetime discount for first responders and medical personnel and retained all staff despite legal “stay home” orders that briefly interrupted shipping and distribution in March and April.
