As part of its commitment to environmental causes, Patagonia has announced a partnership with the American brewery, New Belgium Brewing, to produce a limited-release organic lager beer, called California Route, that will be sold at a few locations in the U.S. The name of the beer comes from a trail on Patagonia's Mount Fitz Roy, which was first climbed in 1968 by Patagonia's founder, Yvon Chouinard, and a few others. The beer uses a special organic malt from Munich. New Belgium Brewing has been recognized by Outside Magazine as one of the ”Best Place to Work” and one of The Wall Street Journal's ”Best Small Businesses.” Based at Fort Collins, Colorado, it recently participated in the “Save the Colorado” campaign.
