The social compliance program at Burton Snowboards has been accredited by the Fair Labor Association (FLA). According to the FLA’s president and chief executive, Sharon Waxman, the American snowboarding and mountaineering company has undergone multiple years of scrutiny and set up suitable systems to detect and remedy unfair labor practices throughout its supply chain, which runs through North America and Southeast Asia. The company has committed to achieving sustainability, issuing reports on its sustainability-related efforts, providing training for its staff and for others in the supply chain, and monitoring its suppliers’ labor and environmental practices. FLA’s criteria match those of the International Labor Organization, those of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development and the U.N.’s Guiding Principles.
