German backpack and sleeping bag manufacturer Deuter has been certified under the German government’s “Grüner Knopf” (Green Button) standard for its sustainability. The Green Button is the first government-monitored label for responsible corporate management and ecologically and fairly produced textiles. It was launched in 2019 by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Products bearing the seal must be manufactured in compliance with government-defined criteria according to the highest environmental and social standards. Thus, the Green Button checks on the one hand how companies fulfill their due diligence obligations, and on the other how products are manufactured in terms of chemical use, environmental impact and production conditions. A total of 46 demanding social and environmental standards must be met – from wastewater limits to the ban on forced labor.

“The Green Button is an excellent reflection of our vision ‘Together for 360°-Responsibility’ for a socially and environmentally fair orientation of our company and our products,” said Marco Hühn, head of CSR at Deuter. “The goal is to protect people and the environment throughout the entire supply chain - from resource extraction to the finished backpack or sleeping bag.”
