Lenzing has announced the launch of EcoVero, an eco-friendly viscose fiber which the Austrian company describes as a new benchmark for the industry. The new fiber is said to be based on sustainable wood resources, an ecological production process and a fully transparent supply chain. Lenzing claims its wood is certified by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). According to the company, EcoVero has 50 percent lower emissions and water impact than any viscose in the market. Finally, the company stresses the transparency and traceability of its supply chain, without which the other two aspects are meaningless. The EcoVero fiber was presented at Planet Textiles in Bangalore, India in May. The fiber would be available sometime in September.
