The Environment Directorate of Norway has recommended a postponement of its ban on the importation and sale of consumer products containing PFOA produced before June 1, 2014. However, there will be no changes to the ban on the manufacture of products containing this substance, for which the deadline was the same. The proposal means that companies are allowed to sell fabrics and garments containing PFOA until 2018, but all of these products must have been manufactured before June 1, 2014. Many within the Norwegian sporting goods industry are reportedly satisfied with this proposal, but would have preferred to see the Norwegian government harmonize these measures with a possible ban by the European Union. Satisfaction has been expressed by the Norwegian sporting goods industry association, Sportsbransjen, whose recommendations about the initial legislation have been largely taken into account.
