The European Commission is proposing for the first time to enforce a simplified, fast-track procedure to check the presence of nearly 300 carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic substances in textile and apparel items sold in the European Union. To this end, the Commission has published a consultation requesting information on the presence or likelihood of presence of these substances in these items, their concentration or migration, their function, the frequency of contact with the article, the availability of alternatives, the enforceability of the possible restrictions and the possible socio-economic impacts of such restrictions or of a ban.
