The Open Apparel Registry (OAR) has been officially launched. The tool is an open source global map and database of apparel factories worldwide, which assigns a unique ID number to each facility. The official launch follows a beta release last year and a series of improvements, based on consultation with stakeholders and their feedback. Funded by the C&A Foundation, the OAR is supposed to help brands and retailers better understand their supply chains and collaborate on in-factory enhancements. The database of facility names, addresses and affiliated parties will be available to any organization free of charge. Azavea is the technical provider that has led the development of the software.
