Timberland has stated that in the future it will be using leather from farms with sustainable pasture practices. Such practices foster the welfare of the animals, taking into account their herd instinct. They also reduce CO2 emissions, as lower use of grazing areas allows them to regenerate, bind more CO² and become less vulnerable to heavy rain or drought. Timberland wants to process leather from farms with sustainable pasture practices in selected collections. These will be available from autumn 2020 in the U.S. Timberland is a co-founder of the Leather Working Group. The company has already announced that it will plant 50 million trees over the next five years.
