Tropicare, the Netherlands-based supplier of the Care Plus range of travel health care products, has announced that it has brought the entire range in line with new EU Biocides Product Regulations well ahead of the official deadline. Announced in June 2012, the new EU biocide regulations will come into force next year and are designed to regulate the use of biocides in products such as insect repellents across the European Union, to ensure high safety and environmental standards. The biocide that is extensively used in the travel health care sector is DEET (Diethyl-meta-toluamide), considered by many experts as the most effective substance for insect repellents. An estimated 200 million people use DEET each year. Along with DEET, two other repellents, namely picaridin and lemon-eucalyptus oil, are now subject to the new regulations.
