Esquif Canoes has announced on its website and Facebook page that it ceased operations on March 16. After 15 years in business, the Quebec-based canoe maker has sold its assets and ended production. Esquif sold whitewater, touring and sporting canoes. The company had been striving to develop a replacement for Royalex, a plastic, lightweight and durable material that was discontinued by its supplier a year ago. Esquif had later announced plans to use T-Formex in its boats instead, its own proprietary material, which was supposed to be ready for the 2015 canoeing season.
