This month, Outdoor Research (OR) hired David Hein as GM of military and tactical. Hein comes to OR from 5.11 Tactical, where he spent 12 years as vice president and GM, among other positions. Prior to that, Hein spent more than a decade at Dickies. OR has been in the government/tactical space for 30 years, making products for elite U.S. military units as well as the tactical consumer market. Over the past two years, OR has invested more than $5 million to improve R&D capabilities for these markets, including the opening of a second onshore factory in El Monte, California, while extensively modernizing and upgrading manufacturing operations at its Seattle, Washington, headquarters.
