Ordnance Survey (OS), the national mapping agency for Great Britain, has launched its walking and cycling app, OS Maps, in Australia. It is the first nation outside of Britain to have full access to this service, helping people create their own adventures in the outdoors. OS Maps is designed for walkers, runners and cyclists of all abilities to ensure they have the best possible experience while staying safe. With more than 3.5 million users, OS Maps is Britain’s most popular navigation app. During the U.K. lockdowns for the coronavirus pandemic, OS Maps has helped people discover walks and green spaces in their neighborhoods. The app saw a 78 percent increase in subscribers in 2020. Local searches of green space and urban cycle networks increased by over 1,000 percent. OS Maps will roll out to other nations during 2021, including New Zealand, Canada and the U.S. The app is free to download, while the premium subscription service grants unlimited access to detailed mapping, routes and features.
