The U.S.-based Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) is partnering with Utah State University and Western Colorado University to offer courses within its Outdoor Industry Business Certificate (OIBC) program, a suite of certificates offered through accredited university partners. Utah State is offering the Sustainable Product Design and Supply Chain Certificate, with faculty from the university’s Outdoor Product Design & Development Program. This course focuses on sustainable product design and the circular economy. Western Colorado is offering the Responsible Business in the Outdoor Industry Certificate, with faculty from the Western’s Outdoor Industry MBA program. This second course focuses on marketing and brand strategy, leadership, social responsibility and inclusion in the workplace. There are no formal academic pre-requisites for these courses, as applicants are not required to hold a college degree. In order to be considered, however, students must have some college or technical knowledge or have a few years of professional experience.
